About Me.

Because Genetic research has shown that being of Ashkenazi Jewish decent (Eastern European) puts you at an increased risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer and given my strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer, I was advised to be tested for the BRCA gene.

I was tested by UCLA and given the news that I carried the BRCA1 mutation. I was advised that women who carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene have an 80% to 90% chance of getting breast cancer in their lifetime.

I was given options: prophylactic mastectomy, increase screenings, or just wait and see.
